The sketches are used to show the anatomy of the male model and the movement of his body as he changed poses. This type of drawing is known as gesture drawing, this helps to capture key frames of movement of an object which is useful for animation and key framing. For gesture drawing loose hand movement is required as the model was continuously moving from pose to pose this meant that the sketches had to be made quickly which as much detail in the movement of the body as possible.
The movement of the model is well captured in each pose as you are clearly able to tell the difference in each pose. The sketches clearly show the movement of the model's body between poses begining with the left is standing upright with one hand on the hips, the middle is shows the spine and shoulders bending forward and both hands on the hips, the right sketch shows the model is down on one knee with his hand in front of his body slightly stretched out.
